Those familar with the Monon Railroad are aware of the railroad's use of semaphore signals. Now, The Depot has one.

Several years ago the Monon Railroad Historical-Technical Society purchased some of the signals from CSX, the current owner of the former Monon line. Most of the semaphore signals have been removed from service

Recently the board of the Monon Society, which maintains its headquarters and archives at The Depot, voted to donate one of the signals to The Depot. Pete Pedigo, a member of the Monon group, delivered it to Salem in March.

Before it can be erected, it will have to be sanded, primed, painted and assembled. That work is expected to be completed this summer.
