Returning Railroaders Relive Monon Memories at The Depot

Richard Cantwell of Borden, left, and Ron Marquardt of Spencer, watch a northbound freight roll through Campbellsburg on The Depot's HO scale model railroad during a visit July 13.

Both were engineers and held other positions on the Monon, L&N and CSX. The Depot frequently attracts retired railroaders who spent at least part of their careers on the Monon.

Mahlon "Cookie" Eberhard, Lafayette, right, taps out a message on the telegraph key at The Depot's office. He's had plenty of experience at that, having started with the Monon as a teenager.

July 13 was Cookie's first visit to The Depot: "I cannot get over how much effort has been put into this project. . . Believe me, if I lived in the area, I would be on your list for volunteer work. Whenever I get a chance, the Salem museum will be
praised!!!"

Our thanks to Cookie for his kind words. He was accompanied on his visit to The Depot by Ron Marquardt, Dave Ritenour and Dave McKalup.
